Abigail Crocker

Welcome, spirit.I'm the artist behind The Howl Tarot, born and raised in south Wales. I studied Illustration at Swansea College of Art, graduating in 2017, and have spent the last nine years bringing stories and characters to life as a freelance digital artist.

20/04/2026Cosmic Felidae is an in-progress tarot deck that merges two central themes: cats and space. The artwork is created entirely digitally in Photoshop using oil-style brushes. Primarily with Kyle's Frost brushes.
The basis for the idea is that Majors are earth cats and the Minors are cats from other planets.
Here I'll be documenting my progress and work.Unlike The Howl Tarot, this deck moves directly from sketches to final paintings. There is no intermediate prototype stage and no traditional drawing or scanning process, every card is produced 100% digitally.Progress: 15 / 78 cards completed

New Card Previews

While I adored the previous style, shown below, I feel that it was not reflecting my best work- nor the intention I want the deck to put forward. While this is a big change, this is part of the creative process, trying things and seeing what feels right. It's a challenge creating vintage/old looking cards digitally, I did this with the Howl Tarot by using both traditional and adding digital later, but it costed me years of time and burn out. I believe I've gotten a step closer with the newer style above. In the new style, cats are heavily referenced from photos and videos to keep realistic proportions. Colours are dimmed, similar to the Howl Tarot, to give them more of that old vintage feel.

Below are some of the following drafts for the rest of the majors, some are more developed than others. This is generally how I work, a lot of my ideas flow during the active painting process.

I create my artwork using Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint, along with a graphic tablet.
I do not support AI-generated art.
Every piece I make is the result of digital drawing and painting, using a mix of brushes, textures, grain effects, and filters.
As someone who has loved animals all my life, I find inspiration in creatures of every shape and size. They are the heart and soul of much of what I create. Most of my skills are self-taught, and I enjoy working in a wide range of styles, from cartoons to digital painting, 3D modeling, and sculpting. More recently, I’ve also been exploring physical crafts like needle felting and crochet. In university, I once considered designing a tarot deck for my final project, focusing on the major arcana, but my lecturers talked me out of it, thinking it wouldn’t be a worthwhile direction. Years later, I decided to finally do what I had always wanted: I fully embraced tarot. I bought my first deck, The Pagan Cats, and created a website where people could request free readings so I could practice. That experience deepened my connection to tarot, and it quickly became a meaningful part of my life.My fiancé became interested in tarot too and started searching for a deck featuring wolves—his favorite animal. We quickly noticed that while I had plenty of cat-themed decks, there were almost none that focused solely on wolves. That’s what led me to start creating the Howl Tarot in late 2021.It took until 2025 to finish the deck. After spending so long on it, I was convinced it wouldn’t attract much attention. I had stopped sharing updates after completing a prototype in 2022, since interest at the time seemed limited. I told myself I’d be happy just uploading it to a print-on-demand site and moving on. It was the biggest project I had ever worked on, and I was proud just to have completed it.So you can imagine how shocked I was when I was contacted with an offer to publish it.I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity. If you’ve purchased a copy of the Howl Tarot, thank you so much. Every bit of this deck was made with love and care, and it means the world to me when I hear how strongly it resonates with those who use it in their readings. As for what’s next, I do have ideas for another deck, but I’m giving myself time.

"I'm coming back to this a month or so after receiving The Howl Tarot. My verdict? I absolutely love working with this deck. These cards speak to me so clearly and on such a deep level, I reach for them more than any others. They're beautiful, the energy is great, they are direct in their messaging, and I'm yet to have them miss.So again, deep gratitude for putting these out there. They're an absolute treasure."
